Updates from the Practice Team

Medical Centre Services update

Apr 07 2020

Thank you everyone for being so patient with us during these trying times.

If you have any health concerns (not just Coronavirus related) please do call us or book a telephone appointment on manage my health or Easy booking on our website. All appointments start with a telephone consult and the GP may then arrange a video consult or a safe face to face if required. Normal fees apply for the initial telephone consult but if you have financial concerns currently then please let your GP know. Don’t let it put you off getting your health concerns looked at. We have also enabled email consults on Manage my health so you can contact your GP for non-urgent consultations ($50 fee applies). Email reception@peninsulamedical.co.nz or phone us if you are not on Manage My health and we can easily set you up.

If you are unwell or have any concerns please do call us 04 380 8855. If you are struggling with your mental health you can book a telephone consultation with our GPs or you can text or free call 1737 the national telehealth service www.1737.org.nz

Driver’s medicals and WINZ medical certificates are being rolled over so don’t worry about these until after the lock down. Childhood immunisations are continuing at the Medical centre. To keep us all safe patients suspected of having Coronavirus are not brought inside the medical centre.

Repeat Prescriptions can be ordered through Manage My Health or when you ring the medical centre on the script line Option 1. All prescriptions have to be faxed (no extra fee) to your local pharmacy so make sure you tell us which pharmacy you use.

Flu vaccinations – if you are over 65yrs, pregnant or are eligible for a free flu vaccine because of a chronic health condition then please call to book.  We are running clinics in a local hall with safe distancing but bookings through the medical centre are essential. The Ministry of health have advised at this stage flu vaccines will be available to the general public after 27 April but this is dependent on vaccines being available so please check closer to the time.

To pay for your scripts and all services please pay on line with reference being your name.  Account number for payments 03 0558 0166886 26

Opening hours during lockdown are 8.00am - 5.00pm. Closed Saturdays and Easter stat days.

Remember to stay home to protect us all but call us if you are unwell and need an appointment.  Keep Safe and Be Kind.

For information on the CORONOVIRUS Covid19 please go to www.covid19.govt.nz or phone 0800 358 5453.

Due to the Covid19 we have been advised to stop face to face nurse and doctor consultations with immediate effect. We will provide telephone consultations and then if a face to face consult is required arrangements will be made. We can then manage small numbers of people within the medical centre to provide social distancing and keep us all safe.

With this in mind any existing appointments have been altered to trigger a phone call from your doctor or nurse at the appointment time rather than attending the surgery. If absolutely necessary, they will then arrange a face to face visit for you.

This will apply to all future appointments booked until further notice.

Many coughs and colds and other ailments can be self-managed at home but we do want to know if your condition is deteriorating or your symptoms are more severe than you expected. DO NOT COME to the medical centre but phone us. A doctor or nurse will phone you and we can decide how best to help.

Flu vaccines are now available for over 65yr olds, pregnant women and those with a chronic condition who usually have a free vaccine and we are holding clinics for these off site in large space where people can remain 2 metres apart. Those who have already booked please still come to your appointment at the community venue and those who haven’t please call and make an appointment and we will give you details. Be patient as our telephones are very busy currently. Flu vaccines for the general public are expected to be available after Easter but we will let you know closer to the time how this is being managed.

For repeat prescriptions please either order on manage my health or phone the script line. DO NOT COME IN to request these. Instead of picking up a prescription we will get these to your pharmacy of choice. Some pharmacies are offering home delivery.

Thank you for your understanding at this extraordinary time. Please help us to keep you all safe.

The team at Peninsula Medical Centre.

As noted in the Spring newsletter Dr Nina Baker has now moved to Christchurch due to her husbands work. We wish her well and thank her for her contribution to the Medical Centre . We are just finalizing details with her replacement, another female GP who we hope will start early March. In the mean time all the GPs here will see any patients registered to Dr Baker.
