AUTUMN NEWSLETTER  MARCH 2016

We hope you enjoyed and benefitted from the splendid weather in Wellington during summer.

We now encourage you to plan for the cooler times ahead.  This includes taking the proactive steps to maintain a healthy diet, take regular exercise and minimise the risk of getting the flu by having a flu vaccination.   Watch this space for more details about vaccine availability.  We have been advised that this will be towards the end of March.  The vaccine is FREE for those aged 65 and older, and also for those of any age with certain medical conditions.  For further information please go to http://www.fightflu.co.nz/ or contact the surgery.

PROTECT YOUR UNBORN CHILD:

Did you know….!
Free whooping cough vaccine (boostrix) is available for pregnant women from 28 to 38 weeks gestation. This is an important vaccine aimed at protecting  Mum-to-Be  and their new born  during baby’s  first 6 weeks  of life.  See the Ministry of Health link for more details http://www.health.govt.nz/your-health/healthy-living/immunisation/immunisation-pregnant-women  or contact the surgery. DON’T MISS OUT.

CHILDREN’S IMMUNISATIONS:

Remember timeliness is the key.   In order to gain the maximum benefit, we encourage you to book ahead for your child’s immunisation appointments at 6 wks, 3 mths, 5 mths and 15 mths.  Our Practice Nurses are happy to answer any questions.  For more information  check out http://www.health.govt.nz/your-health/healthy-living/immunisation/immunise-your-children.

PRACTICE NEWS

Dec 21 2015

From mid-January 2016 Dr Nina Baker will reduce her hours to 3 days per week and is therefore unable to accept new patients from now onwards.

In light of this reduction, if any patient currently registered with Dr Baker wishes to  change to another GP at Peninsula Medical Centre, please contact our reception staff on 380 8855 to discuss their options. Dr Baker will also be happy to discuss this further at your next consultation.

Below is a picture of some of the many gifts donated to Women's Refuge by our generous patients and staff at PMC.

These were delivered to the grateful staff at Women's Refuge in good  time for Christmas.

Thank you for opening your hearts and wallets for those in need.

Staff News : 2015 has seen a few changes in our staffing with the appointment of Vicki Prebble, Practice Manager replacing John Blake who held the role for over 19 years.   The transition has been easy with John remaining in an administrative role.

Another long serving staff member Dr Andrea Crichton, who provided sessional cover for Dr Aine McCoy over the last 12 years, resigned earlier this month, to concentrate on further study and spend more time with her young family.  We will miss her but wish her well.  She promises not to lose touch.

A number of the staff recently enjoyed a fun historical tour of Miramar Peninsula, with Dr Aine making an excellent tour guide.  We learned quite a bit about the area, visiting the Massey and Ataturk Memorials, where we savoured the delights of a scrumptious picnic overlooking Breaker Bay while trying to imagine what our ANZAC soldiers endured all those years ago.  We are truly fortunate to live in NZ.
